special needs
Age: 4 years old
Color & Breed : Tricolor bassets
Gender: Spayed Females
Weight: 40 pounds & 45 pounds
Requires: Applicant/adopter with experience with human fearful dogs, fenced yard, and a confident, friendly resident dog.
Betty #761
Age: 6 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 56 pounds
-
Welcome back, Betty.
Betty #761 is back at MNBR due to allergies in her adoptive home. She’s still 56 pounds, still smooshy, and still super stunning! This six-year-old girl also loves belly rubs and does her best impression of a bearskin rug at the slightest suggestion of one. Betty’s kid friendly, dog friendly, and cat friendly. She walks on a leash, is potty trained, used a doggy door, and is an expert couch comfort tester. She has more rolls than a bakery, is softer than milk bread, and is sweeter than pie.
Zinnia #884
Age: 6.5 years old
Color & Breed: Red/White Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 49 pounds
Requires: Fenced yard and a confident companion dog
-
Zinnia #884 was once a closed blossom in part of a puppy mill system. She came to MNBR, where she has slowly been blooming in foster care. This 6.5-year-old girl is naturally curious and is enjoying being part of a basset pack, although she’d enjoy having someone’s full attention, too.
Zinnia loves to explore, getting in her steps and taking a cruise around her foster home’s fenced-in backyard. But she also enjoys a comfortable dog bed or spot on the couch. Her tail is always wagging and her foster family swears she’s trying to talk to them. When they’re away, she lounges in her crate, patiently waiting for them to return. She walks well on a leash and is a big fan of exploratory walkabouts.
Wouldn’t you love a Zinnia of your very own? Apply for her at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption
Jack #888 adoption pending
-
This poor little guy was found dumped and starving in a small town in OK. He is still underweight but he’s making strides towards being healthy again.
Unfortunately Jack has tested positive for heartworm. He is looking for a foster to adopt home where he can complete his heartworm treatment while MNBR covers the costs, then adopt him once he is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.
We will update his bio as we learn more about him.
Ella #890 adoption pending
-
Ella #890 is looking for her soul mate. That soul mate can be any age—she loves kids!—and can have other dogs and cats as long as they know Ella is equally as important. Sweet Ella is a tricolor basset who is spayed and weighs in just under 50 pounds.
At 6.5 years old, Ella knows all about leashes and crates and going outside, although she does seem to get scared easily in big, open spaces. That just means she’d be fine on a tie-out or walked, no fenced-in yard needed.
Ella lacks some confidence and seeks companionship with people. She likes to be near humans and allows them to tell her how amazing she is. She even likes to wait at the edge of the tub while you shower!
Ella is friendly and curious. She’s willing to learn if you’re willing to teach. If you’re looking for a new four-legged best friend, don’t let Ella slip by.
Unfortunately, Ella has tested positive for heartworm. She is looking for a foster to adopt home that will allow her to live with them while MNBR covers the cost of her heartworm treatment, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.
Regal #904
Age: 9.5 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Beagle
Gender: Neutered Male
Weight: 46 pounds
-
Regal the Beagle #904 has had 9.5 years to live up to his name. He lost an eye as a puppy and his family when they moved, but he continues to go on with dignity and adorableness.
Regal is not afraid to assert himself, especially when it comes to who belongs on the couch, and would be fine being an only dog. He doesn’t mind being alone and believes the planet revolves around him and his beautiful smushy face.
Like every other beagle everywhere ever, Regal has a voice and he likes to use it. He’s also got a top-tier nose that he uses to find treatos and other interesting things. (Are you missing any Cheerios? Regal will track them down.) A fenced-in yard would be best, both because of his vision and because of his sniffer. He’d love to finish out his golden years with people who are prepared to worship his wonderfulness.
Summer #905
Age: 8 years old
Color & Breed: Tan/White Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 40 pounds
Requires: Confident companion dog. A fenced yard would be best.
-
Fall may be here, but Summer #905 is as hot as ever! This 8-year-old tan-and-white basset is as sweet as they come. She’s still a little shy, but if someone was to spend some time sunbathing with her, she’d quickly come around.
Summer would like a quieter house with a lot of routine, and a confident hound buddy to tell her when she’s hound-ing correctly. She enjoys snuggling with the dogs in her foster home and is learning how to play. She especially likes the dog park!
Summer is trusted to be partially restricted when her foster family is out and gets a 100% on her housetraining report card. To Summer, age is only a number. She would be a great walking buddy for someone who enjoys the outdoors. She enjoys the fenced-in yard at her foster home, although a leash or line would probably be fine as long as she isn’t left alone.
Whoever wins Summer over will be awarded with a loyal, low-key companion.

Crystal #920
Age: 2 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 30 pounds
Requires: Fenced yard and confident companion dog
-
Crystal #920 is an independent 2-year-old girl who came to MNBR as part of a breeder release. She’s learning that there are humans out there who treats dogs with respect and patience and is looking forward to everything her forever home can give.
Crystal has a long list of likes. She likes the outdoors (although her walking could use some work, and she’ll need a fenced-in yard as she learns to trust her new family.) She likes dogs, although doesn’t rely on them for emotional support. She’s learning about potty training and walking on a leash.
Crystal’s requests for her future family are good snacks, movie night, many toys to destroy, and many beds to lay in. Nice, quiet outdoor space. Slow-moving, patient people. Do you check those boxes?

Freckles #922
Age: 3 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 46 pounds
Requires: Fenced yard and confident companion dog
-
One glance at Freckles #922 and you’ll know how she got her name! This 3-year-old tricolor basset came into MNBR as part of a breeder release. She loves to give kisses—and to get kisses on her freckled snout in return!
Freckles loves to wrestle and play and will need a big hound brother or sister who feels the same. She’s all right on a leash, although she tends to tangle herself and others in her excitement to go places. She’d probably be okay on a tie-out, but she’s still working through some shyness, so a fence might be more ideal.
Freckles enjoys visits to the dog park and full attention in the car on the way there. She doesn’t enjoy people moving quickly toward her, so she’d like a family with no kids or older, patient kids. When she wants to play, she bows down and jumps around—just in case there’s any confusion! Freckles has the softest ears and neck, and can’t wait for her forever family to scritch them.

vanilla #927
Age: 5 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 37 pounds
Requires: Fenced yard and confident companion dog
-
Vanilla #927 is anything but boring. This five-year-old basset’s previous life was spent as part of a puppy mill operation. She’ll need someone who’s prepared to help usher her into the world of canine comforts. A patient person can look forward to a sweet 37-pound reward.
Currently, Vanilla is learning how to trust. She wants to be near people at all times, although she still isn’t sure who’s a friend and who’s a foe. She likes finding a high point, like a couch, to keep an eye on things, and has chosen one of her foster basset brothers as a life coach.
Vanilla uses a doggy door to get outside and is crated when nobody’s home. She’ll need a house with a secure fenced-in backyard to keep her feeling safe. Gaze into her eyes and let her sad story tug at your heartstrings.

Duke #933 & Dozer #934 adoption pending
Age: 2 years old
Color & Breed: Red/White Bassets
Gender: Neutered Males
Weight: 63 & 55 pounds
-
Duke #933 and Dozer #934 are a mismatched pair of bonded brothers. Duke weighs in at 63 pounds, while Dozer’s a tidier 55. These 2-year-olds came to MNBR by way of divorce. While they’ve spent their lives together, they may not need to be adopted as a pair. Once they get comfortable, they don’t seem to mind being apart, although they would still like another dog buddy to hang out with!
Although their current home doesn’t have kids, their previous home did. They use the doggy door to go outside and are trusted to be partially restricted when left alone. They aren’t crated in their foster home but were with their last family.
These big boys could stand to lose a few, so it’s great that they love walks (but if you leave them behind, you will hear about it!) Duke’s more dominant and enjoys snagging a bite or two from Dozer’s dinner. (He's the one with more white on his tail.) Dozer is a smoocher!
While these boys are learning to be a bit more independent from one another, it would still be preferable if they could stay together. Applications that are looking to adopt both will get preference.

Diamond #936
Age: 6 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset
Gender: Intact Female - Spay Pending 11/11
Weight: 33 pounds
Requires: A companion dog and a fenced yard
-
Diamond #936 has one question: Do you have any snacks, and, if so, will you share them? This six-year-old tricolor basset weighs in at 33 pounds and could afford to put on a few. Treats would be a great way to win her over!
Diamond is looking for a forever home with another dog to boost her confidence. She’s friendly with the dogs in her foster home, and even enjoys the company of cats. Because she gets a little unsure outside by herself sometimes, she’ll need a fenced-in yard. She doesn’t signal when she needs to go out, but doesn’t have accidents if kept on a schedule.
Her favorite toy is a Grinch toy. She likes to hide it deep in the couch (you know, if you’re looking for future Christmas presents to put under the tree.) Christmas toys, Christmas cookies, and the best basset to spend the holidays with? Sounds like a win-win.

Fancy #941 adoption pending
Age: 2 years old
Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: 47 pounds
-
Are you feeling fancy? Fancy #941 is a 2-year-old tricolor girl who weighs 50 pounds. She was once part of a breeding operation, but thinks life as a house dog is much, much nicer! She’d enjoy a hound sibling who can show her what to do in new situations (and one who will show her the squishiest napping spots in the house.) All of that means that Fancy is still working on learning household routines and the noises that come along with them, but she’s easily won over with treats (and people food, if she can guilt you into it.)
Fancy is great with cats and other dogs. She walks well on a leash and would probably be okay on a tie-out, but she’s stronger than she looks and would really enjoy a fenced-in yard for those “squirrel!” moments.
Fancy’s ideal family is any that would allow her to live in the lap of luxury. She’s a part-time princess and a full-time love bug who loves a good game of tug-of-war and a nice yard to explore. If you’re looking for a way to feel a little fancier yourself, the application is just a click away.

Moon pie #943 adoption pending
Age: 4 years old
Color & Breed: Red/White Basset
Gender: Intact Female - Spay Pending
Weight: 45 pounds
-
Moon Pie came to MNBR from a commercial breeder in Missouri. Moon Pie is heavily pregnant, with a due date within the week. The dad is a tricolor basset.
She has also been diagnosed with glaucoma in her left eye. We plan to perform an ablation once her puppies are old enough to be alone for a couple of hours.
Willie #944
Age: 2.5 years old
Color & Breed: Red/White Basset
Gender: Neutered Male
Weight: 40 pounds
-
Willie #944 came to MNBR when one of his owners passed away. There were 15 other dogs in the household! Willie’s learning what a less-crowded living situation is like and he’s ready to be someone’s #1 hound.
At just 2.5 years old, Willie’s still barely out of his puppy pants. When he found the stairs in his foster home, he spent all afternoon just going up and down them! (Now if only they had a slide, too…) He’s fun to talk on a leash, leaving plenty of slack in the leash for his walker, and would be fine with any kind of backyard situation. When the walk is over, he begs for cuddles and lap naps.
Willie gets along well with the dogs in his foster home but could be an only dog too. He is an expert at diving for treats and can even catch some air!
