Maisie #837

heartworm positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Maisie via our HHH Program

  • Squeak. Squeaksqueaksqueak. Can you hear that? That’s Maisie #387, finally enjoying the life she deserves!

Maisie is 8 years old and came from a neglect situation. She was the smallest of the group and the shyest, but she has come out of her shell and learned that humans have pats, cuddles, and access to all sorts of dog toys. She has one speed—slow!—and volunteers to test out all the furniture in your house to choose the most comfortable.

Miss Maisie is looking for a foster to adopt home where she can complete her heartworm treatment while MNBR covers the costs, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

If you’re looking for a true companion who will stick by you (because she’s definitely not going to get up and run away), give Maisie a shot. She loves people and is dying to show off how great bassets can be.

Delilah (Lyla) #861

Heartworm Positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Delilah via our HHH Program

  • Hey there, Delilah #861! This sweet 45-pound red-and-white hound spent her first 5.5 years living with five other bassets before being surrendered. She’d love to have at least one companion in her new home, to help her gain confidence and for snuggles.

Delilah’s quickly learning what being part of a smaller household means, going on walks, taking trips to the dog park, and meeting new people. She can be a little shy at first, especially with men, but when given the chance, she’ll make herself right at home.

Delilah is looking for a quiet home that will help her build confidence and give her all the belly rubs. A fenced-in yard is ideal, but as she gains confidence on a leash a tie-out or leash walks could work for her. Look into her gorgeous golden eyes and just try to resist.

Unfortunately, Delilah has tested positive for heartworm. She is looking for a foster to adopt home that will allow her to live with them while MNBR covers the cost of her heartworm treatment, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

    Apply for Delilah at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Maggie #864

Age: 6.5 years old

Color & Breed: Red/White Basset/Beagle Mix

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 56 pounds - Overweight

Click here to apply for Maggie

  • Maggie #864 is a red-and-white beagle/basset mix whose Rubenesque form hides the fact that she loves to speed walk and chase balls. Got a treat? She’ll catch it, no matter how difficult the toss. Justin Jefferson’s got nothing on this wide (emphasis on wide!) receiver.

If you’re home a lot and want a basset-shaped shadow, Maggie’s your girl. She gets along well with other dogs but could be the star of the show all on her own, too. She’s trusted to be loose when her foster family are
out, and, while fenced yards are nice for hound sniffs, Maggie is more of an
indoor enthusiast and would rather stick close to people.

Maggie is not a fan of cats, and it takes her a bit to warm up to older kids (and younger kids are definitely not her favorite.) She’s looking for a home that will keep up with her Jenny Craig weight-loss program and has a wide variety of fancy harnesses so she can go out looking her best.

Pinky #871

Heartworm Positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Pinky via our HHH Program

  • Sweet Pinky was found abandoned on the side of the road back in May, unable to walk and barely clinging to life. Her gums were pale white and she trembled from the effort of just staying alive. She was rushed to an emergency clinic where she received a blood transfusion and was diagnosed with heartworm. For weeks she battled her way back from the brink, spending days or weeks at a time under hospitalization. She was scheduled to be spayed in early July, but her bloodwork had crashed since her previous visit and she was yet again hospitalized. Thankfully they found the cause, a horrible infestation of hookworms, and with regular dewormings she is finally stable and gaining weight.

Pinky’s fight isn’t over, as she still needs to complete her heartworm treatment. She is looking for a foster to adopt home that will allow her to live with them while MNBR covers the cost of her heartworm treatment, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

Bennett #872

Heartworm Positive

Foster to adopt pending

Support Bennett via our HHH Program

  • There’s nothing quite like puppy love, and Bennett #872 has plenty to share. He loves making new friends, and little kids are his absolute favorite. That’s probably because, at 11 months, he’s just a baby himself! He’s red and white, the color of a Valentine. He’s currently 37 pounds with some room for growth.

Like many hounds, Bennett loves a walk with plenty of opportunities to stop and sniff. He’d be fine in any sort of yard situation. Even at his age, he’s allowed to free-roam his foster home. But he’s a responsible teenager and hasn’t had any house parties or raves while they’re away. He’s a straight-A student and is always on his best behavior. If you have a doggie tie sitting around hour house, Bennett would probably look great in it.

Unfortunately Bennett has tested positive for heartworm. He is looking for a foster to adopt home where he can complete his heartworm treatment while MNBR covers the costs, then adopt him once he is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

Zinnia #884

Age: 6.5 years old

Color & Breed: Red/White Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 49 pounds

Click here to apply for Zinnia

  • Everyone, pick Zinnia #884! No, she’s not about to wilt. Instead, she gets more and more beautiful every day, and we’d hate for another day to go by without her finding her forever family. She’s 6 1/2 and the prettiest red-and-white color you’ve ever seen.

Zinnia doesn’t need a bunch (er, a pack) to bloom. She could be an only dog for people just waiting to lavish attention and love upon her. She’s still a little shy, but a peaceful walk really loosens her up. (She loves making sure she gets in all her steps! Currently she’s logging 50-60k a day. Can you keep up?)

Because of her shy nature and her love of nature, a fenced-in yard would be best so she can explore on her own. Like many older lady bassets, she has opinions on things, although her favorite thing to talk about is the best place to snooze after a good walk. She’s good in a crate, has no problem with stairs, and is housetrained. Add a Zinnia to your bunch and watch her thrive! Apply for Zinnia at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Jack #888

Heartworm Positive

foster to adopt pending

  • This poor little guy was found dumped and starving in a small town in OK. He is still underweight but he’s making strides towards being healthy again.

Unfortunately Jack has tested positive for heartworm. He is looking for a foster to adopt home where he can complete his heartworm treatment while MNBR covers the costs, then adopt him once he is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

We will update his bio as we learn more about him.

Ella #890

Heartworm Positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Ella via our HHH Program

  • Ella #890 is looking for her soul mate. That soul mate can be any age—she loves kids!—and can have other dogs and cats as long as they know Ella is equally as important. Sweet Ella is a tricolor basset who is spayed and weighs in just under 50 pounds.

At 6.5 years old, Ella knows all about leashes and crates and going outside, although she does seem to get scared easily in big, open spaces. That just means she’d be fine on a tie-out or walked, no fenced-in yard needed.

Ella lacks some confidence and seeks companionship with people. She likes to be near humans and allows them to tell her how amazing she is. She even likes to wait at the edge of the tub while you shower!

Ella is friendly and curious. She’s willing to learn if you’re willing to teach. If you’re looking for a new four-legged best friend, don’t let Ella slip by.

Unfortunately, Ella has tested positive for heartworm. She is looking for a foster to adopt home that will allow her to live with them while MNBR covers the cost of her heartworm treatment, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

Juniper #901

Age: 9 months old

Color & Breed: Red/White Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 29 pounds

Click here to apply for Juniper

  • Juniper #901 and her brother, Moose, were surrendered when their previous owners just couldn’t get a handle on their health issues—both the dogs’ and their own. Juniper’s just 9 months old and weighs in at 35 pounds.

Juniper’s a people dog and becomes attached easily. She will also do anything for a snack, including bringing you her food bowl. She’s housetrained and enjoys walking on a leash. Families of kids, look here, because Juniper loves kids (especially ones that let her sleep in their beds.)

If you have a youthful hound already, they will love hanging out with Juniper, who is still a playful puppy. She has her whole life in front of her. Can she start it with you?

    Apply for Juniper at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Moose #902 adoption pending

Age: 9 months old

Color & Breed: Black/White Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 30 pounds

  • Moose #902 is a little dog who thinks he’s a big boy. At nine months old, he weighs in at 30 pounds, but if you ask him, he’s as big as a real moose!

Moose is young and loves to run and play. He enjoys being the loud one at recess, so somewhere with a yard and neighbors who are far away would be ideal. Despite his loud voice, he’s not the dominant dog in the household, and is respectful of the other pets who live there.

An active family who loves doing outdoor things would be his ideal. He’s a happy-go-lucky guy who can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly. He sleeps in bed with people and is the type of dog that always has to be touching you. He’s also crate trained and potty trained. As far as his foster knows, he hasn’t been around small kids or cats, but they haven’t found anything he doesn’t like.  Moose and his sister Juniper came to MNBR after months of battling giardia and coccidia that their family just couldn’t get under control. They tried everything they and their vet could think of without success. With their own health issues getting worse, they decided to put the health of the pups first and find them a place they could get better. They tested negative for everything we could think to test for, so we’re optimistic that they’ve grown out of it!

Aurora #903

Age: 9 months old

Color & Breed: Black/White Basset Mix

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 36 pounds

Click here to apply for Aurora

  • Aurora #903 is a 9-month-old
black-and-white basset mix. We’re not quite sure what Aurora’s mixed with, but it’s with something that’s got some energy and loves to learn (border collie, maybe?) She can easily leap baby gates and stairs are no challenge to her. She’d really enjoy a fenced-in backyard and an active family who like to scope out the surroundings as much as she does.

If you’ve been looking for a basset but one that can keep up with the kids, Aurora’s just what you’re looking for. Give this sweetie a second chance that she definitely deserves.

Regal #904

Age: 9.5 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Beagle

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 46 pounds

Click here to apply for Regal

  • Regal the Beagle #904 has had 9.5 years to live up to his name. He lost an eye as a puppy and his family when they moved, but he continues to go on with dignity and adorableness.

Regal is not afraid to assert himself, especially when it comes to who belongs on the couch, and would be fine being an only dog. He doesn’t mind being alone and believes the planet revolves around him and his beautiful smushy face.

Like every other beagle everywhere ever, Regal has a voice and he likes to use it. He’s also got a top-tier nose that he uses to find treatos and other interesting things. (Are you missing any Cheerios? Regal will track them down.) A fenced-in yard would be best, both because of his vision and because of his sniffer. He’d love to finish out his golden years with people who are prepared to worship his wonderfulness.

Summer #905

Age: 8 years old

Color & Breed: Tan/White Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 40 pounds

Click here to apply for Summer

  • Summer #905 is an 8-year-old tan-and-white lady basset who weighs in at 40 pounds. She was part of a breeder release from down south. Her foster home describers her as deerlike, with big doe eyes and long legs (well, long for a basset, anyway!)

She’s learning how to be a house dog and could use a confident hound friend to show her the lazy basset life. She’s a submissive member of the pack, following the others and copying what they do. A new bestie who’s not afraid to share their person would be part of her perfect forever family.

Summer enjoys walks and is good on a leash, although seeing the sights is something she does more of. Because she’s still a bit skittish, a fenced-in yard would be the best choice for everyone.

A quiet, adults-only home full of routine and with a confident friend is what Summer is looking for. She’s sweet and well-behaved, but is still learning that people want nothing more from her than companionship and love.

    Apply for Summer at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Dexter #906 adoption PENDING

Age: 4 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 38 pounds

  • Dexter #906 is a 4-year-old tricolor who weighs 38 pounds. He was a private relinquishment who traveled to MNBR by way of Oklahoma. He’s dog and kid friendly. Although he doesn’t live with smaller children, he’s shown interest in the ones in his neighborhood and has been very happy to meet them. He gets along well with the dogs in his foster home, although he could be an only dog as well. We’re unsure about cats, but he hasn’t shown much interest in smaller animals, domestic or wild.

Dexter’s a great walker and doesn’t pull much. He could get along well in any kind of yard/outdoor situation, although he has jumped a baby gate so a fenced-in yard would need to be taller than basset legs. (Huge ask, we know! 😆)

Dexter’s only flaw is that he doesn’t love the crate. He eats meals there but doesn’t seem to have turned it into his safe space. He’s partially restricted when his foster family leaves the house, and as long as there’s nothing for him to get into, he’s fine.

A yoga fan, Dexter enjoys stretching around the house. He immediately transitioned into his foster home like he belonged there. People looking for a first basset could do a lot worse than this friendly boy! Apply for Dexter at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Barry #907 adoption pending

Age: 2 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 36 poundS

  • Barry #907 is a 2-year-old tricolor male who traveled to Minnesota by way of the bayou. He is new to living in a home and learning some manners, so someone who isn’t afraid to tell him no from time to time would be ideal. He is friendly with every dog he meets and loves nothing more than playing with them. (Every dog is a best friend Barry hasn’t met yet!).

Barry walks fine on a leash and would be okay on a tie-out or walked, but with his young age, he’d really love a fenced-in yard to dash around, or someone who likes to visit the dog park a lot. He’s crate trained and is on a potty-training regimen that he has been good at sticking to.

A family with no kids or older, respectful kids would suit Barry well, as he can be a little tentative with sharing his favorite human. He’s been very receptive to firm but gentle corrections and has made progress in this area. It helps that praise is his favorite reward! He also loves mealtimes, with a good zoomie after.

    Apply for Barry at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Rosie #908 ADOPTION pending

Age: 4.5 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 52 pounds

  • Rosie #908 is a 4-year-old tricolor basset who came up from the south as part of a breeder release. She’s getting along well with the dogs in her foster home, although she doesn’t need them and could be someone’s only dog. She’s also polite around kids. Kids give the best pets, after all!

Rosie loves food, and her roly-poly shape is proof of that. She likes a good snuggle, too. She’s like a Pillow Pet, but alive! She’s crate trained trained but would much prefer to sleep right up next to you. She’d be fine in any kind of backyard situation, too. She’s resilient and ready to try out her next adventure with her forever family!

    Apply for Rosie at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Fred #909 adoption pending

Age: 3 years old

Color & Breed: Black Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 36 pounds

  • Fred #909 is a 3-year-old tricolor male who’s a delicate 36 pounds. Despite his small size, he has a big love for toys and has a history of trying to hoard them all for himself. Because of that, he probably shouldn’t live with small kids who he might see as a rival for Lamb Chop's affections.

Fred is dying to play with other dogs, but the hounds in his foster home just aren’t interested. He likes to walk and loves to run, so a fenced backyard would suit him best. He’s potty trained and will begrudgingly get into a crate, although he will tell you all about it later.

The one thing Fred doesn’t like? Peanut butter! But he’s willing to sample all the other yumyums to find something he does like. If you see yourself as a basset hound buffet, apply for Fred at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

Harry #910 special needs

Age: 2 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 30 pounds

Click here to apply for Harry

  • Harry #910 is a 2-year-old tricolor male who weighs in at 30 pounds. He came to MNBR when his family ran into medical issues and couldn’t take care of him any longer. He’s good with dogs and is said to be good with kids. He was said to be cat friendly, but his recent attention toward the cat in his foster home leads us to believe he would be better in a cat-free space. He could be fine as an only dog if his person is home a lot of the time to give him all the time he deserves.

Harry’s good on a leash, although he tends to tie up his human while meandering. He’d be fine in any kind of yard, although he enjoys chasing small critters, so a fenced-in yard would suit him best. However, he also doesn’t tend to stay outside long if a person’s not with him.

Harry’s crate trained and can do stairs with no problems. He’s fairly chill, although, like every puppy, can get excited and enjoys a good toy to roll around. Couch snuggles are very important to him, and he’s dying to show new people his version of the zoomies—spinning around in circles!

Unfortunately, upon arrival in rescue we noted pain in Harry’s front legs. An x-ray and a consultation with our orthopedic surgeon confirmed our fears, Harry needs a double ulnar osteotomy. This sweet little guy is now looking for a foster to adopt home where he can recover from his upcoming surgery.

    Apply for Harry at https://www.mnbassetrescue.com/adoption

JuneBug #912 on hold

Age: 6 years old

Color & Breed: Black Tricolor Basset

Gender: Intact Female - Spay Pending

Weight: 36 pounds

Click here to apply for Junebug

  • Junebug #912 lived the first 6 years of her life as a puppy mill dog and is finally ready for her real life to begin. She’s on the smaller side, weighing in at 36 pounds, and has the best hound ears anyone could ask for.

This small sweetie is mellow and tends to go with the flow. She’s good with kids and cats and could live alone or with others. She could do fine in any kind of yard situation. Nothing bothers this good girl! Her foster family doesn’t even know what her bark sounds like!

When Junebug cuddles, she turns into a puddle of jelly. She’s learning that the outdoors is full of things to explore but would rather take a wandering mosey rather than a fast hike. Not sure where the comfiest spot in your house is? Junebug will let you know.

On the evening of 9/16 Junebug lost the use of her back legs due to suspected IVDD. She is currently on crate rest and being treated with steroids, pain meds, and muscle relaxants. We are hopeful that she will pull through and regain full use of her legs. She has made improvements in the following days. Please keep Junebug in your thoughts.
