Bree #760

Age: 5 years old

Color & Breed: Red/White Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 36 pounds

Requires: Fenced yard and dog companion

Click here to apply for Bree

  • Bree is a gorgeous 5 year old red and white female that is petite at 36 pounds. Her big brown eyes and loooooong ears turn heads wherever she goes.

Unfortunately, due to her history as a breeding dog, she is shy with new humans, but she is affectionate and sassy with her people.

She enjoys cuddling on the couch, wrestling with her dog friends, playing with toys, and finding things around the house she can get into, like stealing the remote or your slippers. She loves her trips to the dog park to meet new dogs and stretch her legs and she’s a big fan of walks around the neighborhood as long as the people that pass just comment on how pretty she is and don’t try to touch her long, silky ears.

Bree is looking for an understanding family that will take things slowly with her and has a fenced yard and another dog to be her guide and companion.

Emmy #795

Age: 2 years old

Color & Breed: Black/White Basset Mix

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 38 pounds

Click here to apply for Emmy

  • Emmy #795 is back at MNBR due to unforeseen circumstances and no fault of her own. She is a young 2-year-old basset mix who is spayed, vetted, and ready to give looking for a forever home a second shot. Emmy weighs 37 pounds and has an attention-getting black-and-white coat. She’s not just a looker. She’s got a big personality to match!

Emmy is housetrained, leash trained, and has no problem doing stairs. She’s familiar with a tie-out and is great with people and strangers of all ages. (No cats though, please.) She’s completed obedience training, enjoys playdates at the dog park, and loves food puzzles and other brain-building activities.

Emmy does require a home without a chain link fence, because not only is she mentally sharp, she’s a peak physical specimen as well. She likes being near people and was known for escaping the fence at her original home and circling back to the front door to be let back in. She loves being around people, and anyone who loves walking, hiking, or adventuring will fall in love with her.

Opal #801

Heartworm Positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Opal via our HHH Program

  • Opal is a senior lady who is heartworm positive, still intact, underweight, badly needs her teeth cleaned, is arthritic, and has a cataract in one eye. Thankfully, her bloodwork is good, her heart and lungs sound good, and she’s not done living her life. She is a feisty old gal that enjoys tootling around the house and yard, taking long naps on each and every dog bed in the house, and finding our which sweaters look the best on her (spoiler alert: it’s all of them).

She is dog friendly and very patient with even the youngest, goofiest dogs, but we have found that she and cats are like oil and water. She is snappy with cats when they come up to sniff her face and patrols the house looking for them, concerned about their intentions. She is housetrained but does need to go out every few hours. She enjoys snuggling on the couch with her humans while begging for snacks, sitting at their feet while they work, and cozying up to them in bed at night. She is incredibly easy to have around, never makes a peep, and is very low maintenance other than her pill regimen.

Unfortunately, Opal has tested positive for heartworm. She is looking for a foster to adopt home that will allow her to live with them while MNBR covers the cost of her heartworm treatment, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

Walter #830

heartworm positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Walter via our HHH Program

  • Have you been waiting for a kid-friendly basset? Walter #830 loves them like a basset straight of a Disney movie. He also lives with a male basset and a female retriever and has been respectful of their personal space. He’s friendly and has even taken cross-state road trips with brand-new basset friends.

Walter would enjoy a fenced-in backyard but is a total gentleman on a leash. He does NOT enjoy a crate and will let everyone in the surrounding area know about it. (He’s otherwise very quiet and well behaved!) His foster family thinks he’d love an active family with another dog, or just people who are around a lot.

Walter loves being outside, sleeping in bed with people, and enjoying an occasional zoomie. Sometimes he chews on things he’s not supposed to, but he easily gives them up or trades for something better. And just look at his face!! How could you not fill out an application?

Unfortunately, Walter has tested positive for heartworm. He is looking for a foster to adopt home that will allow him to live with them while MNBR covers the cost of his heartworm treatment, then adopt him once he is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

Allesandro #834

Age: 6 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 38 pounds

Click here to apply for Allesandro

  • Allesandro #834 can’t believe he’s still here! He’s made friends with everyone who’s crossed paths with him, from tiny toddlers to curious canines. He prefers women but is happy to say hi to everyone at the dog park. His new favorite hobby? Lounging on a hammock! He only weighs 38 pounds so there’s plenty of room for you, too.

Allesandro walks well (for a basset, anyway) and would be fine on a tie-out or walked for potty breaks. He would really enjoy a doggy brother or sister or the promise of lots of dog park trips. His foster family trusts him to be loose while they’re gone. He shares well with his foster sister, although tends to steal her bed when she’s not looking.

Allesandro enjoys singing along to music and inspecting groceries for goodies. He has been diagnosed with bilateral corneal edema. This condition is not currently painful for him and does not require surgery at this time. He is taking anti-inflammatory drops to ensure his long-term comfort. He may develop ulcers 3-4 years in the future that would require a different type of drop or surgery.

Maisie #837

heartworm positive

foster to adopt pending

Support Maisie via our HHH Program

  • Squeak. Squeaksqueaksqueak. Can you hear that? That’s Maisie #387, finally enjoying the life she deserves!

Maisie is 8 years old and came from a neglect situation. She was the smallest of the group and the shyest, but she has come out of her shell and learned that humans have pats, cuddles, and access to all sorts of dog toys. She has one speed—slow!—and volunteers to test out all the furniture in your house to choose the most comfortable.

Miss Maisie is looking for a foster to adopt home where she can complete her heartworm treatment while MNBR covers the costs, then adopt her once she is heartworm free. MNBR has clinics in MN, IA, WI, and ND that adopters can use for treatment.

If you’re looking for a true companion who will stick by you (because she’s definitely not going to get up and run away), give Maisie a shot. She loves people and is dying to show off how great bassets can be.

Hemi #838

Age: 7 years old

Color & Breed: Red/White Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 6 pounds

Click here to apply for Hemi

  • Hemi #838 is a 7-year-old 66-pound red-and-white lady who is full of wrinkles and love. She came from a neglect situation but that hasn’t made a dent in her personality. Hemi likes everyone but will always pick a dog bed to share with a friend.

Despite her name that suggests power and towing capacity, Hemi is a slow-moving girl with bursts of energy. She had some skin infections that are clearing up, and now she can see better, but she still doesn’t want to get anywhere fast. She could settle in well in any kind of family situation as long as they snuggle her and let her snooze.

Hemi’s favorite entertainment is her foster family’s rats. She puts her nose up against their cage and tries to get them to pat her and tell her how amazing she is. She’s kid, cat, and dog friendly, too. Take Hemi for a spin and bring her home!

Mini #839

Age: 7 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 57 pounds

Click here to apply for Mini

  • Mini #839 is a 7-year-old female basset. Despite her name, she swings the scales at 57 pounds (maybe it’s aspirational?) She came from a neglect case along with her daughters Willow and Phoebe.

Regardless of her earlier struggles, Mini is sweet and friendly. She’s used to being around dogs and is also kid- and cat-friendly. She can do stairs a few at a time and likes a leisurely walk. After a lifetime of raising her kiddos outside, she’s learning how to live the good indoor life. She still can’t believe her luck at the luxury of dog beds—she loves nothing more than rolling over in one, then letting out a loud bark of happiness.

Mini and her friends have a long road ahead of them but are looking forward to the lives of leisure they deserve. Will you be part of it?

Mini lost 24 teeth as part of an extensive dental. She was already missing 6 teeth so she sadly only has 12 teeth remaining. She will need small kibble or softened food going forward, but she is feeling so much better.

Hudson #842 Adoption pending

Age: 2.5 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 29 pounds - Underweight

  • Hudson #842 was hecho en Mexico and brought to a shelter in El Paso. He was in foster care for a while when a mystery illness caused him to drop weight that he’s still gaining back. Despite those early difficulties, he’s a happy-go-lucky boy who just wants to find a family to reassure him that he’s the best dog ever. He has beautiful hazel eyes and a waggy tail that doesn’t quit.

Hudson’s just 2 ½ years old and currently an underweight 29 pounds. He’s neutered, up-to-date on vetting, and is ready to find his forever home. He’s dog, cat, kid, and stranger friendly, and settled into his foster home right away. Hudson dying for a new doggy brother or sister to help him burn off some energy.

Hudson walks on a leash and is good on a tie-out. He’s also quickly figured out the doggy door to the fenced backyard at his foster home. He sleeps in a crate and hops right in and is so eager to please that he’d probably love activities like obedience or rally. Show Hudson some Minnesota nice and show him that a forever home is out there.

Copper #844 adoption pending

Age: 3.5 years old

Color & Breed: Black Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 34 pounds

  • Copper #844 is a transfer from El Paso and is curious about everything that the Midwest has to offer. This little brown-faced basset weighs just 34 pounds and is neutered and ready to find his forever home. (Bring snacks!)

Like the hound dog he’s named for, Copper loves to talk and tell everyone what’s going on. He also gives smooches! His foster fam says they haven’t found anything Copper doesn’t like. He enjoys playing chase with his foster siblings and wiggling in happiness.

Copper’s moderately active and likes taking walks, where he enjoys weaving back-and-forth taking in all the smells. His foster family has a doggie door, and Copper likes going in and out as many times as he wants, although he’d be fine on a tie-out or walked on a leash as well.

Bo #845

Age: 4 years old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset

Gender: Neutered Male

Weight: 43 pounds

Click here to apply for Bo

  • Bo #845 is a 4-year-old tricolor basset boy who tips the scales at a respectable 43 pounds. He made his public debut at Golden Valley Pride and enjoyed the pats and the people (although he thinks that the event could be improved next year with the addition of some comfy basset-only couches.)

Bo is trustworthy enough to be left loose when his foster family is out and about. He has a doggy door that he can use at his leisure and would be fine with any kind of yard. He really just loves following people around.

Fun Bo fact: He sploots for attention! He’s okay with other dogs but he doesn’t need them in his life as long as there are people. You’ve read Bo’s bio. Now fill out an app! You wouldn’t want to let Bo down, would you??

Daizy #847

Age: 1 year old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Beagle

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 21 pounds

Click here to apply for Daizy

  • Daizy #847 is as sweet as a flower and as dainty as a daisy! She’s looking forward to meeting her future forever family and learning how to be a dog from an already-established pack. She likes watching the dogs in her foster home and copying what they do. She’s met dogs of all shapes and sizes and she’s gotten along well with all of them.

Daizy is also cat friendly, although she’s not quite sure about small kids quite yet. She’s still learning about leashes, and a tie-out isn’t in her future. She’s working hard at walks and potty training, though, because she wants nothing more than to make humans happy.

Daizy loves a lap and is sweet and gentle with both people and pups. She’s playful and fun, although she’s rather nom on a chew than squeak a toy. She’s food motivated but is on the caveman diet (ew, fruits and veggies.) She’ll spin and dance for meat treats, though!

Rosie #848

Age: 1 year old

Color & Breed: Tricolor Beagle

Gender: Spayed Female

Weight: 21 pounds

Click here to apply for Rosie

  • Rosie and her sister Daizy were seen being dumped by some good samaritans in Oklahoma. They gathered them and found a safe place for them to safe until they could make it to MN. They are dog friendly but they are a bit shy with people at first (I mean, wouldn’t you be if someone dumped you on the side of the road?).

We will update her bio as we learn more about her.
